Americans for the Arts' Public Art Network (PAN) is the only professional network in the United States dedicated to the field of public art. As a program of Americans for the Arts, PAN strengthens efforts to advocate for policies and best practices that serve communities creating public art. More than 350 public art programs exist in the United States at the federal, state, and local level. The PAN network brings together artists, community members, and art and design professionals through online resources, professional development and education opportunities, knowledge-sharing practices, and strategic partnerships.

Free iPhone app Features Portland (Oregon) Public Art

Get out your iPhone or iTouch and download the free "Public Art PDX" app. It currently maps 429 pieces of public art in the Portland area owned by the City of Portland or Multnomah County. From freestanding to integrated to interactive, you can check out information about each artwork -- the name of the artist, media, dimensions, and funding source. The majority of the listings also include a photograph and description of the artwork. New features are already in the planning stage.

In true Portland spirit, users of the Public Art PDX app can suggest pieces of art to add to the app, as well as actually improve upon the official data by making information about the locations of art pieces more precise and accurate.

Created by Portland app developer Matt Blair, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC), and the City's Bureau of Technology Services, the app makes it easier to find and learn about Portland's public art.

You can also find Portland's collection on CultureNow's Museum Without Walls website and app.

  1. It is important for those people who love artwork. With artwork data and information, it is important for students who tackle arts and history in their school. It can be considered as educational tool for students.
